Is my cargo insured automatically when I ship?

No. Carriers’ liability is limited by international conventions and often amounts to a small fraction of the cargo value. Cargo insurance is separate and only applies if it is arranged before departure.

What is the difference between all-risk and named perils?

All-risk cover (Institute Cargo Clauses A) protects against all causes of loss or damage except those specifically excluded. Named-perils cover protects only against the events listed in the policy. Total loss only pays when the whole consignment is lost.

How is the premium calculated?

As a percentage of the insured value, which depends on the commodity, packing, mode, route and the scope of cover chosen. We quote it together with the freight.

What do I need to make a claim?

The insurance certificate, commercial invoice and packing list, the transport document, and evidence of the loss such as a survey report, photographs and the delivery note with remarks. We help assemble the file.
